I know I know, I've been very quiet here on the blog recently. It's been a manic couple of weeks in the Rammell household! But enough excuses - I've got news!
One of the reasons I've been so busy is because I've investing a lot of time into a project I've been planning since the start of the year. All the research, note-taking and planning has finally come to fruition: I present to you the Ready, Steady Pro Photography Podcast - The Podcast for Photographers Turning Pro!
What is the show about?
This Podcast is for those people who are in the business of photography. More specifically it's for those people who are juggling their startup photography business with a day job, life commitments and most likely, a family too. 'Making the Jump' can be a hard path the travel, and it's a path that you don't have to travel alone - so many people are finding their way into the photography industry and this is the podcast where like-minded photographers and photographers in a transitional period discuss the high's, the low's, the pro's, the con's and the challenges that you'll face on the way to becoming a full time professional photographer, or at least a photographer making good money from the craft. From how to set your prices. What marketing methods are most effective, what platforms are available to host & design websites and weekly topical debates on subjects such as whether you should specialise or generalise, this podcast will cover a whole host of topics with one aim in mind for every episode: to give you, the listener food for thought and plenty of take-home value to inspire and help you to make your business a success.
What prompted this Podcast? It occurred to me that I spend quite a lot of time chatting to other photographers through Social media. Most of the time the chat is about photography, specifically the business of photography. I realised that I actually get involved in a lot of conversations about sales, pricing, marketing, websites and a whole host of other subjects that are common questions for those people that are newer to the photography industry. So I decided to get together a team of great photographers to discuss it in the form of a Podcast (a pre-recorded Internet Radio Show, if you will).
Where Can I Listen? The show is available in iTunes and more recently I submitted the show to the excellent Stitcher Radio App (not appearing yet, but I'll update this blog post when it's live!).
You can also head over to the website where there is a link to stream the show online.
If you're reading this on your iPhone or iPod touch and you have the Podcast app installed, you can also tap here to open the show in the Podcast App.
How regularly will the show be released and what format is it?
We're doing a show each week, alternating between an round-table, talking heads type episode where my guests and I discuss a specific topic in as much detail as we can. Then, the next week we publish a one-on-one interview, where I sit down with a photographer to find out more about them and the way they're running their business. Most of my guests are photographers who still have day jobs, so a lot of the discussion revolves around the way they are juggling that job with starting a small business and the rest of their commitments.
We're currently 3 episodes in, including 2 round-table discussions and one chat with Lee Jones of Phitography.co.uk. So, if you're a photographer and you're looking to turn pro - this is the Podcast for you!
Be sure to head on over to iTunes, hit subscribe and leave us some feedback too! It's that feedback and those reviews that help get the show to more listeners.
Don't worry though, I'll still be blogging here and sharing more work as and when I do it.
Where Can I find more information?
I have setup a Word Press site for the Podcast. Everything related to the show and each episode, including more information about the guests can be found over at ReadySteadyPro.com
You can also join the buzzing and growing community over on Facebook. It's a private group, so if you have a day job - don't worry. Everything you say & do in the group is private!
